Mexican poet and essayist Jorge Ortega at the border fence in Mexicali, the state capital of Baja California. Ortega holds a PhD in Hispanic Philology from the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona and he was inducted into the National System of Art Creators (SNCA) in the discipline of letters. He received the State Prize for Literature in Baja California in 2000 and 2004 in the genres of poetry and literary essays, respectively, and the Tijuana National Poetry Prize in 2001 and in 2005. He won many other awards for his poetry.
