Q: What is the essence of your life as a border artist?

A: “From the border, my beloved and now violated land, I communicate my feelings through painting and writing, because creating, teaching and spreading art is a must for me. Art integrates me as a person in this chaos.
I enjoy expressing my view of the world through art. Creating, teaching and sharing art are my natural needs.
I live here, defending and enjoying the art day in day out, despite a battered Mexican border; but we keep resisting and working. The only solution to the problem of my country is education, art and culture; these key elements, along with the sense of family and roots to our native land – are our hope.
To live and create on the US-Mexico border is a challenge. Here we learn to survive despite the violence and the current difficulties; growing up on this border is like learning to walk in a mine field; but sometimes the border area is what connects us to the global world.
I enjoy expressing myself in writing and the visual arts, it is when I find my heritage and traditions become unconsciously present. I am frequently referring to the experiences of our ancestors, as we are all migrants who took root here over 250 years ago and fought for a noble life of work, dignity and freedom.”

Cual es la esencia de tu vida como artista fronterizo?

“Desde la frontera, mi tierra entrañable y hoy vulnerada, comunico mi sentir pintando y escribiendo, porque crear, enseñar , y difundir el arte es para mí una necesidad. Ante el caos, el arte me integra como persona.
Disfruto al expresar mi visión del mundo por medio del arte. Crear, enseñar, y compartir arte, integran esta necesidad innata en mí.
Aquí vivo , defiendo y gozo del arte, a pesar de una frontera mexicana golpeada día tras día; pero aquí resistimos, trabajando. La única salida al problema de mi país es la educación, el arte y la cultura; estos elementos primordiales, junto con el sentido de familia y arraigo al terruño- son nuestra esperanza.
Vivir y crear en la frontera México-E.E.U.U. es un reto. Aquí aprendemos a sobrevivir no obstante la violencia y las dificultades actuales; crecemos sabiendo que en la frontera se aprende a caminar sobre terreno minado; pero otras veces la franja fronteriza es tabla salvadora que nos aproxima al mundo global.
Me expreso con gozo en la escritura y en las artes plásticas, y luego encuentro, al revisarme, que a veces y de forma inconsciente están presentes mis herencias y tradiciones. Con frecuencia aludo a la noble experiencia de nuestros antepasados, migrantes como lo somos todos, quienes se arraigaron aquí hace más de 250 años y lucharon por una vida noble, de trabajo, digna y libre.”
